Supply the Love: Haiti
Supply the Love: We supply the camera and film and you supply the love! We would love to have you be an ambassador of Print the Love! If you are traveling to an under-resourced community anywhere on the globe in the next year and would like to participate in spreading random photo kindness to the local people, lets chat! Together we can make a difference! Application is online.
The Supply the Love program is 100% supported by donors. If you are not travelling, you can still donate funds towards the camera and film for those who are.
As part of the program, we ask that ambassadors write a short description of their experience. All the words are their own.
Anael in Haiti
Over the past 6 months I have been living, working and volunteering as a global health fellow in Thomassique, Haiti as part of the NGO, Medical Missionaries. My experiences have been formative, each day presenting moments of hope despite the extensive suffering that exists. I, along with my two other co-workers serve along side a fully staffed Haitian medical staff to coordinate several health and community projects including a traditional birth assistant program, mobile clinics, water purification, malnutrition projects, salt iodization program, and education outreach. Our work with community leaders is focused on implementing innovative health programs in Thomassique, and the outlying five villages. In addition to this, we also hold administrative functions, including medication tracking, clinical operations, and facilitating logistics for visiting medical teams.
It is an incredible task that Ceallaigh at Print the Love has taken on. I never realized the luxury of photos and having something permanent to hold onto and look back on until coming to Haiti.
Capturing moments in the form of instant pictures are opportunities to create permanent memories but if nothing more, a time to bring joy and happiness. Print the Love is a byproduct of the life journey and vision of Ceallaigh Anderson Smart. As a way to find healing for the trauma she faced, Ceallaigh traveled to Rwanda and began working in schools, hospitals, prisons and churches. It was through her interactions with people across these settings that she found a common thread. Each of them were overcome with excitement after having their pictures taken and that’s where the epiphany set in. Her passion to extend this seemingly small gift of polaroid pictures for those living in the poorest countries has spread love in simple yet meaningful ways.
Thanks to one of my closest friends, Claythe, and her encouragement to submit an application, I’ve been able join the mission of impacting lives, even through these small gestures. Much like the communities in Rwanda, Haitians love having their pictures taken and I have not met any in Thomassique that have pictures of themselves or their families. Really happy to be part of this journey and encourage anyone traveling to developing regions to look into Print the Love. Here are some moments I’ve been honored to capture and I hope it brings you as much joy as it has brought these amazing souls.
